Instagram crosses 300 million active users milestone

Photo sharing application Instagram has announced that the network has witnessed an amazing growth phase and the active users have cross 300 million. Nine months back, Instagram announced 200 million active users.

Facebook acquired Instagram in 2012 and many technology experts predicted demise of the cool photo sharing app. However, Instagram maintained its growth momentum, indeed the momentum has picked up in the recent months as the management has launched some exciting features.

Going forward, Instagram is planning to introduce verified user badges which will help build more trust among users. In coming weeks, Instagram will allow verification for celebrity and business users.

Instagram has surpassed microblogging network Twitter which recently announced that its userbase was around 284 million. Facebook now owns sizable market share in different segments with WhatsApp, Instagram and its own messenger service.
Kevin Systrom, CEO of Instagram said in an official blog post, “We’re committed to doing everything possible to keep Instagram free from the fake and spammy accounts that plague much of the Web.”

Instagram added that more than 70 million images are shared on its network every day. The major growth for Instagram has come from markets outside United States. Instagram still has to show its revenue potential but currently, the focus is on improving the user base and the interactions between users.

Instagram is also taking steps to detect and remove fake users on its network. Facebook is expected to remain in a dominating position in the social networking segment.
