Austin rapist might have victimized many more women: police

Sex offender Darren Vann, whose recent confession led police staff in Indiana to find seven bodies, might have victimized many more women during the past 20 years, authorities said.

On Monday, the Lake County prosecutor's office charged 43-year-old Vann in the strangulation death of 19-year-old Afrikka Hardy, whose body was discovered last Friday at Motel 6 in Hammond.

His confession of Vann of nearby Gary led authorities to discover the bodies of six more women on Saturday and Sunday. Officials in Gary are expected to charge the serial rapist and killer later this week.
