National Republican groups target Maine Legislature
Two national Republican groups seeking GOP control announced on Thursday that the Maine House of Representatives as well as Senate would be among their top targets.
In a conference call, the Republican Legislative Campaign Committee and the Republican State Leadership Committee said that the Maine House of Representatives and Senate were among their "Sweet 16" targets, where they were seeing good chances to gain majorities in the November ballot.
Portland agrees to compensate Kruger to settle claims
The city of Portland has agreed to pay a total of about $5,000 to Portland police Capt. Mark Kruger and also erase disciplinary actions from his personnel record. However, Mayor Charlie Hales described the settlement as a disgrace and also said that he did not know about the certain conditions in the settlement.

The two were arrested on Tuesday on charges that they owned the methamphetamine lab that was discovered in Merrill. Micah Lawlor, 38, has been charged with two counts of methamphetamine trafficking. He and his girlfriend, Jessica Tremblay, 26, have been charged with burglary, theft and criminal trespass

The Department of Environmental Protection's Bureau of Air Quality voted unanimously yesterday to allow Thomaston-based Dragon Cement plant to operate under federal emissions standards that will allow the plant release 68 per cent more mercury into the air as production increases.
